The Brilliant Child (Audition application form below)

Please note the show is intended as a professional musical theatre production rather than a children's club or amateur showcase. Young performers will be working as part of the development of an original musical alongside experienced creatives, gaining valuable insight into the rehearsal and production process.

As many of our younger cast members are still developing their stage experience, we also bring in specialist tutors and industry professionals throughout the rehearsal period. Rehearsal sessions are therefore charged at £25 per session, with an expected maximum duration of 1 hour 30 minutes, although sessions are often shorter.

This production represents an exciting opportunity for young performers. Our aim is to develop the show for local theatre touring and future expansion, giving participants the opportunity to be involved in an original musical from its development stages through to public performances.

The Brilliant Child is an uplifting musical about a young boy named Sam, whose creativity and imagination are often overlooked in a world that values speed, competition, and fitting in. When a school project sparks rivalry between classmates, Sam begins to doubt his own abilities after being betrayed by those he trusts.

With the support of his friend Mia and a growing belief in himself, Sam discovers that true brilliance is not about being the fastest or most popular, but about kindness, perseverance, creativity, and working together. Through music, friendship, and self-discovery, the children learn that everyone has unique gifts to offer.

For parents whose children are auditioning for the first time, please note that the playing age is not necessarily your child's actual age. A playing age refers to the age range a performer can realistically portray on stage.

For example, a role with a playing age of 9–10 years may be suitable for a child who is older in real life but appears younger. Likewise, some younger children may be considered for older playing ages if they look and perform convincingly within that age range.

Casting decisions are based on appearance, performance ability, stage presence, and suitability for the role, rather than actual age alone.

Audition information: 30mins

At the audition, both children and adults will be asked to perform a monologue for a character similar to the role they are applying for, along with a solo singing piece of their choice.

As part of the audition process, applicants will also learn and perform a section of The Brilliant Child ensemble dance, allowing the creative team to assess movement, performance skills, stage presence, and the ability to work as part of a cast.
